Nothing is more fun than making books for kids to read, enjoy, and COOK with! KIDZ Culinary Academy is a hands-on cooking school for kids focusing on fresh recipes for healthy children and fun food-art projects. The Bauman College team developed the cookbook program along with the recipes.
I had already remodeled all of the Bauman College catalogs and curriculum for adults — Nutrition Consultant Handbooks and Nutrition Educator Handbooks — and the great challenge of this project was to give it that special "kid" look... large fonts, eye-catching graphics. Each chapter included many recipes and art projects featuring a specific food, such as strawberries or carrots. The cover design and illustrations came from Chris Bauman's silly and very creative mind.
This adorable cookbook was printed as a black and white 94-page, 7x8.5 inch, spiral-bound volume with a color cover. There is also an accompanying academy training manual that I designed located at this page: KIDZ Culinary Academy Training: Summer 2008
Soon we will be developing the new and improved KIDZ Culinary Academy Cookbook and Training Manual for use at Bauman Wellness in Berkeley, California. (BaumanWellness.com)

"Phyllis Peterson is an incredibly knowledgeable book designer. She is very professional. She is easy to communicate with, responsive to author needs, quick to implement changes, and talented at book design.
"I worked side-by-side with her for 15 years, submitting photographs, graphic creations and text for Bauman College and Bauman Wellness books — Nutrition Consultant textbooks, Affordable Nutrition, KIDZ Culinary Academy Cookbook and KIDZ Culinary Academy Training Manual, and my recent favorite, the 2020 Spice for Life book.
"We worked very closely on the Spice for Life book, with many editorial, layout, photo placement, and recipe decisions needing to be made quickly to complete the book on time. She integrated two author's text, tables and recipes, as well as my photos, into the Spice for Life book using her editorial and text placement skills, application of graphic standards, and artistic design to guide the process. The final files got to the printer, along with the online version, by the deadline. I was impressed. I love working with her and hope to do more books with her."
